Most bacteria are benign or even beneficial. But not all of them. Bacteria cause about 8 million deaths every year. And they cause many times more infections than that. (See my posts Human Pathogenic Bacteria I and Human Pathogenic Bacteria II). But we have a way to fight back. We have developed dozens of antibiotic drugs for treating human infections.
